Audit & Compliance Officer

If yes, a vacancy has risen in the Compliance  Department and you are the person we are looking for to take up the position of  compliance officer. 

The Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring efficient identification, assessment,  measurement, monitoring, reporting and documentation of compliance risk associated  with the bank’s business operations. He /She is also required to prioritize and follow  up on non-compliance issues to closure. The officer will also have the responsibility to  investigate and report on fraud related incidences. 

The Role 

Specifically, the successful jobholder will be required to: 

  • Manage compliance risk and provide support to all the business units  Coordinate production, documentation and approval of all compliance  programs  
  • Escalate significant ethical or business practice concerns and work closely  with relevant business and staff functions to investigate the concerns and  recommend appropriate remedial actions. 
  • Administer the compliance program and coordinate the business  compliance with the local and international regulations. 
  • Administer the anti-money laundering and KYC policies and procedures. Prioritize and manage compliance risk and provide support to all business  units of the bank 
  • Ensure strict adherence to all regulations, statutes, standards, practices and  all internal processes and procedures as per the relevant manuals and  comply with all relevant external legislation and regulations with regard to  Compliance requirements.  
  • Review new and revised product programs and processes. 
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are compliant with regulatory  requirements. 
  • Proactively identify and monitor changes in the regulatory environment and  ensure the bank’s policy framework is updated. 
  • Identify potential systemic procedural weaknesses in processes and  additional training requirements for the Bank. 
  • Provide compliance training in line business’s assessment of need
  • Assist with addressing internal queries (within the Bank) relating to money  laundering and compliance matters. 
  • Ensure that noted lapses or non-compliance issues are efficiently tracked to  closure 

Skills, Competencies and Experience 

The successful candidate will be required to have the following skills and  competencies: 

  • Business/Computer/Information Systems degree or higher  
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role (audit role will be an added  advantage) 
  • Knowledge of general banking principles  
  • Demonstrable knowledge in risk assessment and control  concepts/methodologies. 
  • Skilled in negotiation and conflict management to resolve problems that may  arise during an audit. 
  • Excellent oral and written skills; a strong verbal communicator, analytical  writer and able to clearly and concisely convey personal observations of  processes, risks and controls. 
  • Excellent analytical ability both qualitative and quantitative to draw sound  conclusions coupled with demonstrated knowledge and proper application  of sampling techniques. 
  • attention to details and organizational skills. 
  • Awareness of regulatory environmental and regulations 
  • Clear knowledge of bank policies and procedures  
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations, policies, particularly in relation to Anti Money Laundering and KYC

  • Excellent analytical & risk analysis skills 
  • Advanced report writing & presentation skills 
  • Must be willing to travel long distances on assignments
