Join us as the Project Manager for “Harvesting Green Energy for Smallholder Farmers,” a groundbreaking initiative enabled by the Co-operative Bank of Kenya, Shell Foundation, and Mastercard. This partnership aims to uplift up to 93,000 Kenyan smallholder farmers by increasing their income through the productive use of assets over the next two years.

As the Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in operationalizing, adapting, and scaling this ambitious project across identified regions.

The role
The successful jobholder will be expected to:

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, goals, timelines, resources, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Create schedules, assign tasks, and ensure clear roles and responsibilities.
  • Efficiently manage budgets, allocate resources, and monitor expenditures.
  • Facilitate effective communication among team members and stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks to keep the project on track.
  • Monitor deliverables to ensure they meet standards and requirements.
  • Address issues promptly and make decisions to drive progress.
  • Provide guidance, motivation, and support to the project team.
  • Maintain detailed records, generate reports, and document lessons learned.
  • Plan and conduct field visits to engage with stakeholders.

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

The successful jobholder will be required to possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or STEM-related graduate degree preferred.
  • Project management certification (PMP/Prince) is a plus.
  • Strong field experience in deploying productive use energy assets for smallholder farmers, preferably in East Africa.
  • Successful track record in technology deployment and project management, particularly in Kenya.
  • Experience managing projects with multiple stakeholders and budgets exceeding US$500,000.
  • Ability to develop and implement market delivery plans.
  • Previous experience in monitoring and evaluating development programs involving smallholder farmers.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to make decisions in ambiguous environments.
  • Proficiency in English and Kiswahili required, additional languages in Kenya are advantageous.
